Ophthalmic care alongside appointments for exotic animals
Aesop Animal Medical treats dogs, cats, birds and reptiles in Pyeonggeo-dong, Jinju, Gyeongnam. It provides ophthalmic and orthopaedic care, with experience in older dogs’ eye, blood and skeletal assessments, cataract surgery and care for several exotic species.
The clinic’s appointment-only policy for exotic animals, published on 23 April 2024, reserves time for each patient’s procedures. Owners bringing an exotic animal can begin by discussing an appointment for that animal.
Older dogs had eye, blood and spinal assessments
In the examinations of twelve-year-old dogs described on 29 April 2026, eye checks assessed cataracts and entropion, an inward rolling of the eyelid. Aesop proposed care to address discomfort associated with the rolled eyelid.
Blood testing assessed anaemia, platelets and markers related to the liver, kidneys and pancreas, among other measurements. Radiographs identified bone growth beneath lumbar vertebrae 5–7 in one patient, while also assessing the hips, other joints, chest and abdomen. These were findings in these patients, rather than evidence that all older dogs’ hind-limb signs arise from the back.
Cataract surgery equipment and instrument sterilisation
In June 2024, Aesop’s ophthalmic centre described cataract surgery using Alcon Infiniti Ozil equipment, a Leica surgical microscope and ophthalmic instruments. A cataract is clouding of the lens inside the eye. These describe the clinic’s surgical setup; equipment names alone cannot determine a patient’s suitability for surgery or visual outcome.
Its instrument-care account that month described plasma sterilisation of heat-sensitive items, including cataract handpieces, microsurgical instruments and endoscopy equipment.
Care addressed the species and affected body part
Exotic-animal cases from March 2024 included eye examination and medication for a Sun Conure with sudden visual deterioration and cataracts, and treatment for corneal injury in a Tokay Gecko. A rabbit with a lower-jaw abscess and bone inflammation received a surgical procedure. The species and conditions belong to those individual cases.
A ten-month-old female Call Duck in the case published on 15 April 2024 had preventive checks of its bill, appearance, eyes and body condition. For mild foot findings, the clinic proposed disinfectant, skin ointment and footwear. That was advice for this duck, not treatment to apply directly to other birds.
An older dog’s ear treatment combined cleaning and medication
A fifteen-year-old Miniature Pinscher described on 19 March 2024 had severe bacterial otitis externa, inflammation of the canal leading towards the eardrum, with yellow discharge from the left ear. The clinic combined ear flushing, medicated ointment, oral medication and laser treatment. The laser was part of this patient’s treatment; the case does not establish a universal ear treatment or a shorter course of medicine.
